In our twenty years of work with nomads we have dealt with all the major issues of WATER • HEALTH • FOOD • EDUCATION • WORK
Because nomads are a mobile population and difficult to find, we centralized this work on their annual migration route so they could come to us at:
- TAMESNA CENTER FOR NOMADIC LIFE–built to bring services and opportunities available to all nomads in Niger–begun 2009
- First medical clinic for nomads–14,225 nomadic patients treated to date 2020– built in 2009
- First boarding school for nomads–68 nomadic students in school built in 2011
- First graduating class to junior high school 10 nomadic students 2017.
- TAMESNA FESTIVAL: First nomadic festival for youth–presenting our programs and opportunities at the Tamesna center for nomadic life held each year since 2013 — 2500 attended in 2014.
- Microcredit for at risk youth–94 loans
- Environmental erosion control and pasture improvement in 4 communities
- First midwife training program for nomads–49 women trained–4 continuing and expanding the training program–2449 births with no maternal mortality while under our care.
- First earthbag building training for nomads–20 nomads trained in 2015
- First solar panel manufacturing company in Niger–jobs for nomads–24 nomads trained
- Demonstration garden to train people in new agricultural techniques
- 34 Cement Wells–serving 15,000
- 26 Cereal Banks–serving 10,000
- 6 Schools Built–serving 5,000
- Support of 12 schools–over 10,000 nomadic children educated
- 20 animal fodder banks serving 8,000
- 16,000 Animals Vaccinated
- 9 women’s co-operatives–over 1,000 women
- 792 Animals purchased–camels, cows, goats and sheep
- Emergency Aid: Epidemics 2015, 2016 Famine 2010, Floods Agadez 2009, Famine 2005
- Purchased chickens, pens, equipment and vaccinations for 20 residents of Iferouane 2016
- Taught and supplied 40 students to repair motorcycles 2017, 2018
- Replaced 12 potato gardens destroyed in Iferouane floods 2019
- Supplied desks for 240 students in Iferouane 2020
- Work program trained artisans to replaster artisan center and museum to aid artisans 2020
- Supplied 10 sewing machines and materials for trained girls to start businesses 2020
