On arrival at the center, I found the construction stopped because of lack of water. Our solar pump did not have enough water to continue pumping so we realized we had to dig the well deeper, but this is a difficult process. The “digger” descends into the 135 foot deep well. His voice echoes from the darkness in the hole. He is lowered down in a rope swing and shovels the wet gravel out of the bottom of the well. ( look carefully–he is dangling there)
We hope to go another 15 feet to find enough water to service the clinic, the garden and the center. Meanwhile the construction progresses slowly. We could have hired more people to complete it quickly, but the water will not keep up to make the bricks necessary.
These will soon be rooms to welcome our medical team–I hope.
