We have continued to expand our training matrones (what traditional birth attendants are called in Niger). We started with five and now have seventy-five. This number makes it very difficult for the Rabi and Assalama to train at one time and we get requests to expand all the time. It was time to form assistant trainers. Our current mission is to train four Wodaabe and four Tuareg assistants. Chosen for their excellent grasp of the program and the consistent quality of their work, we will now be better able to expand our program. On future missions we hope that these women will do the training with the oversite of our medical team, Dr. Becky Jones, Midwife Pat Manzon and Dr. Jennifer Stevens. Our program is becoming more and more independent, but they still need supplies and our medical team’s support. Please help us.
