I have asked all the participants in the medical mission to write their thoughts. Here are those of Dr. Bob Skankey.
I am always amazed how much good can be done when caring people are willing to work together to reach a common goal.
This mission started off with support financially from Rotary and the Nomad Foundation. Then came generous donations from Direct Relief and Amani’s Medicine Shoppe. Many individuals, rotarians and others, lent their expertise as we prepared for reaching out to the nomadic people.
One additioanl adventure I enjoyed was our off road driving in our Nissan Patrol vehicle. We travelled to a number of nomadic camps as well as once exploring for dinosaur bones. It was a bouncing up and then down, a quick left, then right. Yawing back and forth as we worked through soft sands. To me, the rides were easily comparable to any produced by Magic Mountain or Disneyland. It was a most exhilarating, wild adventure. As has been said…we took a road less traveled.
