Eyes on Africa–Thanks again

October 22, 2017 by leslieclark 1 Comment

Eyes on Africa once again comes through with hundreds of pairs of readers and sunglasses which we distributed all through our mission.

Sunglasses are not just about being cool–although I think Amouna, one of our new traditional birth attendants, has achieved that–they are about preventing cataracts which form in the very young in the Sahara.

They are very needed, but also very cool!,

Our military security ride around in the back of an open pick up under the blazing sun and constant blowing sand. They LOVE Eyes on Africa.

Atouma, one of our new traditional birth attendants needs glasses to be able to read the new blood pressure cuff she got in her med kit.

The Wodaabe men at foudouk festival particularly liked the pink and green models.

And all the matrones got sunnies and those who needed them got readers.

The military just kept coming…we did have 20 of our own security.

No Sherry–we are not giving out sunglasses to terrorists–these are the guys who are supposed to be protecting us from them.

We left 100 readers and 100 pairs of sunglasses at the clinic for Rabi to distribute as needed.  We are working on a mission to do cataract operations next year, but maybe these glasses will slow down the need a little bit.

And we had a blast giving out the glasses!

Having helped with the distribution and fit of the glasses I know how important
The readers and the sunglasses are not only for
The women’s work but to keep the sun, sand, and wind
Away! It is also so much fun
Because people can see! So they exclaim and hug and laugh and smile and that time
    Becomes an “event” 😀 A
    Happy happy event
