We returned to Agadez to try to figure out how to finish the distribution of the millet our call for aid had purchased. 350 sacks still sat in a warehouse in Agadez after the government’s refusal to let us act right away in Agadez. Co-ordination efforts seemed to be stalled. On our trip we saw how many outside communities were affected. The community of Amateltel lost one third of its houses and 1000 trees, and not one agency is even considering help for them. We decided to allocate 100 sacks. We could not give a full sack to everyone so the chief decided to split the sacks so each family got one third and all the women came to collect.
He told us that never had they had an aid so immediately after a disaster when it is most needed.
