We have been doing projects with women and artisanal co-operatives in Mali for many years through the efforts of Charlene Pidgeon. A tragedy has been unfolding in Mali which has brought the country to its knees and now many of our friends are facing starvation. It is at these times that we have to focus on survival.
Women at the fistula clinic at work on making jewelry to sell–there are no tourists to buy since the recent rebellion, military coup, and islamist take over of much of the country.
With no tourism in the country their efforts to produce an income through sales of jewelry items are not effective so in addition to purchasing jewelry for resale in the US, we are helping them purchase food to ensure survival.
A big thank you to those of you who have supported Charlene’s work.
