Our most recent training of 8 new traditional birth attendants was completed at Ingal March. Rabi far left is our local nurse who conducted the training and Sidi, center arranged logistics and purchased the their supplies and medical bags.
On our last mission we brought a mamabirthie pelvic mannequin donated by Laerdal thanks to our new team member Jennifer Stevens. We left one with each of our trainers. These are essential training tools to simulate birth conditions.
Thanks to a Rotary Grant we were able to purchase media players and translate 9 training films into Tamasheq. These films produced by Global Health Media and Medical Aid films have become essential training tools. Our tamasheq translations are now on their websites and available free to all for viewing and downloading.
A big thank you goes to John Massey for his hard work producing the film translations and for funding this training mission. We now have eight new matrones bringing the total to 64 practicing traditional birth attendants.
In the end of April after Ramadan, we will complete a training for eight more new applicants from eight new remote communities around Iferouane.
