Thanks to a generous grant from Rotary Club of Ojai and Rotary Club of Westlake Village Sunrise we were able to purchase a satellite internet constellation that would enable us to have ZOOM calls with the local staff in Niger and allow our US medical team to communicate with the trainers and trainees in the Traditional Birth Attendant program. It would also provide an income to the Tamesna Center by providing, for a fee, a reliable internet connection in the bush for the many travelers and nomads who pass by the Tamesna center.
Unfortunately the new military government decided to ban all satellite internet communications to prevent terrorists from using them. This ban lasted until the government signed a contract with Starlink last month and so our internet should be up and running by the 1st of January 2026. Rocky as usual.
