The Tamesna clinic, because of the quality of our staff and the consistent stock of good medicine, has the best reputation in the region, drawing people from all over the north of Niger. But we found that the most at risk patients were pregnant women. One in five women in Niger have a lifetime risk of death in childbirth. Since our program started in 2012 we have expanded to 12 active midwives who have assisted at over 700 births without losing one mother or child born alive.
