Today is a big day for the top class at Tamesna school. Most nomad kids stop school at the end of grammar school if they even go at all. This is because the only junior high schools are in towns and many have never even been to town. We are constructing a new elementary school building with financing from Rotary, but really wanted to help the top class continue. This posed a big problem. We had planned to set up a center where our they could stay in ingall. Only 35 k away, but many of the kids had never been. The parents of the students did not like the idea of sending their kids to strangers in a strange environment so we asked them to tell us what they wanted. Each one found a family member that lives in agadez or ingall who was happy to let the kids live with them during the school year. So seven of the kids have come to agadez and three to ingall. We are helping the families by paying for their books, food and the top three are going to private school. Here are two of the top three Ahmed Issouf and Tefeste Issouf- brother and sister. I am so proud of them and their parents who are all committed to their education even before they found out we would help. I kno they’ll do great.
