Tamesna School

March 18, 2013 by leslieclark Leave a Comment

It was so disappointing not to be able to go out to see the school, but I sent Sidi out with a camera and he came back with reports.  I spoke to the teacher who says the kids are doing well.  When I saw the photos with all the kids learning so fast–it made me all the more anxious to get going on building the school.  We have the financing to get two classrooms built by next October, but there is so much more to come later–dormitories, a real kitchen, residence for the teacher and and enclosure wall for it all.  We plan to do some of this with a new/old method of construction called earth bag building that we hope to teach them next winter so they can start doing their own building and will be able to repair when necessary.  But here are the students 42 of them, already reading and writing…

The director of the school distributes chewable vitamins donated by Dr. Skankey–at least part of our mission was accomplished.

Boy do we need a new kitchen…

The pipes are in to the garden and soon the kids will start helping with a school garden.

They are happy and learning and being fed–the rest will come–with your help…
Ibrahim Midirene 8ansA big thank you to all of you who sponsored children at Tamesna school.  Since I was unable to visit them I can’t send you individual reports, but in October, when we open the new classrooms,  you’ll get to know them better.

Bye for now,
